BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- As part of its quest to make its pharmacies as patient-friendly as possible, Wal-Mart is leaving no part of its operation unscrutinized.
The chain's commitment to its patients, vice president of pharmacy operations Ron Chomiuk says, even extends to Connexus, the company's cutting-edge pharmacy computer system.
'We've done things over the years to enhance the safety of our patients and to ensure that they get the medications they are supposed to,' notes Chomiuk.
With one of the pharmacy operation's major initiatives this year being enhancing the quality of the prescription-filling experience for Wal-Mart's pharmacy customers, executives are paying close attention to customer feedback.
'As our consumers tell us what it is they need, we will continue to modify the system to allow it to give them these things and make the pharmacy experience more rewarding,' Chomiuk asserts.
One capability that he says Wal-Mart is likely to incorporate into Connexus this year or early in 2009 is electronic prescribing.
'We're big advocates of e-prescribing, and we are ready to go,' states Chomiuk.
